Antwerp fifth dock no - SMET-F&C

In Antwerp's Fifth Port Dock No, the existing quay walls are being reinforced to lower the water bed, so that larger ships can moor in the future. The work to reinforce the quay walls is being carried out by SMET-F&C. Anchoring is an important part of the new construction.

Following phases 1 and 2, TAB Anker BV started delivering phase 3 in April 2024 concerning 112 anchors of type HRAB-75.0-R with a length of 36.5 meters. These anchors are of steelgrade 670/800 and, due to the length, delivered to the construction site in two parts. The anchor rods are factory fitted with double-corrosion protection to ensure "endless" service life. All parts susceptible to corrosion are expertly packaged using plastic and cement encasings.

On the construction site, the anchors are coupled by Smet-F&C employees, and we provided the coupling also with corrosion protection. The Smet-F&C employees expertly installed these anchors into the soil and after sufficient curing, all anchors are tested and approved. It was another great project that we were able to deliver to our client Smet-F&C.

SMET-F&C commissioned TAB Anker to deliver 344 HRAB75 Anchors, which are needed to anchor the quay wall. The Anchors with a length of 36.5 metres in steel quality 670/800 are delivered with double corrosion protection. At the construction site, the anchors are delivered in two parts. 

Four Test Anchors were installed in the preliminary phase, which were successfully tested in acceptance tests.

The production and delivery of the Anchors required for the first phase of this project has now been completed, and the remaining anchors will be processed in the coming years.
